Twittelator Pro for iPhone Getting Even Better

Submitted by Dennis Metzcher on Fri, 09/05/2008 - 19:33

Last week, I purchased Twittelator Pro, the mobile Twitter app for iPhone, from Apple's App Store. There were several features that Twitteriffic and Twinkle simply did not have, and I figured that the $4.99 price tag was worth the risk. Since then, I have not used either Twitteriffic or Twinkle once.

After I downloaded the app and gave it a short test drive, I emailed the developer, Andrew Stone, with my thoughts and suggestions. He replied back very quickly and we exchanged a few emails. Other must have also contacted him with similar suggestions, because I received an email today that details an upcoming update which includes almost every feature on my wish list.

I'm very excited about this update.

The current feature set is as follows:

  • Three themes to choose from.
  • Multiple Twitter accounts supported with fast switching between them.
  • Allows posting of photos taken directly from camera or photo library.
  • Allows posting of a map of the current location.
  • Allows posting of high resolution photos.
  • Full Twitter search capabilities.
  • Allows for the saving of searches.
  • Copy whole tweets, or links within tweets, and paste into new tweets, or into any other app that supports the OpenClip framework.
  • Allows posting URL as new tweet from Safari.
  • Allows exploration of public timeline and friends of friends of friends.
  • Help button in case of emergency (posts emergency message as a new tweet with current location/map).
  • Allows for tagging tweets as favorites.
  • Allows following and unfollowing of other users.
  • Built-in Web browser.
  • Tapping top bar scrolls to top of tweet list.
  • Bottom bar has page down control.
  • Log file to see Twitter server info.
  • Allows for turning off capitalization and auto-correct functions.
  • Allows for bookmarking of tweets and searches.
  • Allows for deleting of tweets.

The update, which Andrew has said will come this month, will include the following new features and bugfixes (taken from an email sent today to Twittelator Pro users).

New Features

  • Search "Nearby" now:
Searches has new menu item "Nearby" which takes location from phone and looks for nearby tweets.
Search Panel, Advanced, Location: Switch on "Nearby" and set distance.
  • New Theme: Starling (Black and gray).
  • Support for selecting from multiple links in a tweet.
  • Support for seeing the details of an @user mentioned in a tweet.

    Double-tap a tweet will:
    - if one @USER: show their detail
    - if more @USERs: let you pick which one
    - else if a link, follow that link
    - else if more than one link, let you pick which one
    - else show detail of the Tweeter (or tap picture)

  • When you start to follow someone, you are asked if you want notifications.
  • Refresh on a search resubmits fresh search.
  • Your last two hundred tweets are returned in My Tweets.
  • Delete Tweet now has confirmation panel.

Fixes:

  • Taking a photo won't mistakenly hide keyboard.
  • Some people were not getting 'My Tweets' correctly - but that is fixed.
  • Searches correctly for strings with accented characters.
  • Handles urls which are surrounded by parens, braces, etc.
  • Archived Direct messages now show recipient.
