Sometimes, it is necessary to go back and listen to those who came before us in order to get an idea about where we are, where we are going, and how far we have come.

United States President Dwight David Eisenhower said:

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron."
- April 16, 1953

The above excerpt comes from a speech given to the American Society of Newspaper Editors as Eisenhower was running for the office of President of the United States.

The human race has come far since Eisenhower delivered that speech, but have we come far enough, and have we focused on what really matters in this world?
