There are a few RSS readers available if you have a jailbroken iPhone. NetNewsWire is coming, too. So why is Google Reader my favorite RSS tool for the iPhone? It’s simple, really. Although I love native apps, and tend to prefer them over Web apps, I always come back to Google Reader for one reason: portability.
Being able to “star” an item and easily read it later from any Web browser, anywhere in the world, is the biggest advantage to using Google Reader. The fact that Google has put a lot of effort into making their apps available as iPhone Web apps is a big plus for me as well, since it makes things a lot easier when you’ve got a large number of feeds, as I do. It’s also a real timesaver to be able to add feeds using my desktop or notebook computer and have them appear on my iPhone, and vice versa.
This blog certainly isn’t going to be an ad for Google, but when they get it right, they get it right.
